FAR Eastern University star Bernadeth Pons urged her teammates to embrace the pressure heading into the Final Four of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
FEU secured the second twice-to-beat spot in the Final Four after a 25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20 victory over National University coupled by an Ateneo loss to arch-rival La Salle on Sunday.
That put the Lady Tamaraws in a position to reach the finals for the first time since the 2008-09 season - and perhaps win their first league championship since the 2007-08 campaign.
Pons said the Lady Tamaraws must know how to handle the pressure.
“Pressure naman, palaging nand'yan. Palagi naman naming nire-remind ang bawat isa na hindi namin siya dapat i-take as pressure, kasi lalo lang kaming mawawala sa kung ano ang dapat naming gawin,” said Pons.
“So china-challenge namin palagi ang sarili namin, kung ano 'yung mga dapat naming gawin, kung ano ang role namin sa team, 'yun.” he added.
The graduating spiker stressed that ending the second round on a three-game winning streak was a big confidence boost for the team.
But they also know that the tougher tasks still lie ahead.
“Basta kami na-ready naman kami ni coach, physically and mentally na ano 'yung possible na mangyari, na kung in case man na mag-playoffs or something, ready pa rin kami,” said Pons.
