FAR Eastern University made short work of University of the East, 25-10, 25-21, 25-18, for its fifth straight victory in the UAAP Season 81 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Redijohn Paler finished with 12 points off eight attacks, a pair of blocks, and as many as aces while JP Bugaoan delivered 11 hits as FEU kept its hold of the solo lead ahead o its match against Adamson (3-1) on Sunday.
Al-Jhon Abalon scored eight points for the Red Warriors, who dropped to 1-4.
Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas returned to its winning ways as it demolished De La Salle, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17, to raises its record to 3-2.
Coming off a sorry loss to FEU last Saturday, the Tigers got a big lift as Joshua Umandal came away with 18 points off 13 attacks, two blocks and three aces.
UST head coach Odjie Mamon, however, lamented their lack of killer instinct.
“Pinaghandaan naman namin. Although wala pa rin pang close out. 'Yung killer instinct, nilalaro pa rin namin,” Mamon said. “‘Yung confidence nila nagwa-waver."
Rookie Jaron Requinton sprained his right ankle midway through the first set and didn’t return. But Mamon believes that Requinton will likely see action in their next game against NU (3-1) on Saturday.
“Definitely sprain. Pero initial tingin ko lang ah, wala namang fracture,” Mamon said. “Siguro sa practice on friday pero saturday, definitely.l
Rookie Billie Anima carried the cudgels for the Green Spikers with nine points as La Salle dropped to a 1-4 mark - tied with UE which it faces on Saturday.
