FAR Eastern University skipper Bernadeth Pons considered the stunning loss to Ateneo a reality check after the Lady Tamaraws entered the game confident following a four-game win run.
FEU didn’t look like the same that rolled past its last four foes as Ateneo turned the match into workout and pulled off an easy win, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
“Ang taas ng morale namin eh, confident kami na pagka-kinalaban namin ‘yung Ateneo, matatalo namin sila,” said Pons.
The graduating spiker shared that the Lady Tamaraws did their homework against the Lady Eagles but it didn’t translate in the match.
“Pinaghandaan din talaga namin ang Ateneo, gusto talaga namin sila na talunin. ‘Yung kagustuhan namin, hindi lumabas sa mga ginawa namin,” she said.
It was a sub-par performance for FEU compared to its first meeting with Ateneo this season, where the Lady Tamaraws scored 20 points from the service line. On Wednesday, they only had three service aces in the entire match.
Even Pons only had five points in the match, while only one player from FEU scored double digits - Toni Basas with 10 points.
Pons, though, is hoping that they can bounce back when they face University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday.
“Kailangan mahanap namin ‘yung sarili namin. Hindi ‘yun ‘yung laro namin,” said Pons. “Mahaba pa eh, marami pa naman kaming makakalaban kaya kailangan namin mag-bounce back.”
