FAR Eastern University defeated University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-12, 25-19, on Saturday to snap a two-match slide in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Heather Guino-o and Toni Rose Basas combined for 21 points for FEU, which improved to 2-2, tying Ateneo for fourth spot.

For the first time this season, the Lady Tamaraws won the first set, erasing a four-point deficit, 19-23.

“Basta ’wag lang sila mawawalan ng composure at sa game plan, focus lang. Na practice naman naming ’yun and na execute namin sa practice,” said FEU coach George Pascua.

The veteran mentor was glad the Lady Tamaraws got a much-needed confidence booster ahead of their coming games.

“Kahit papano naka-relief kami kasi pagka tatlo na medyo mahirap na so talagang pinilit namin makuha ang game na ito kasi nga para hindi lumayo doon sa standing namin,” said Pascua, whose team came from three five-setter matches, two of which were losses.

“Nakakaboost ng morale ‘to sa players, kasi kailangan maboost ang morale nila ulit para mabalik ang confidence nila,” he added.

Diana Carlos led UP with 15 points, 10 digs and eight excellent receptions in the one-hour and 17-minute match.

UP, which started the season with a five-set victory over UE, dropped to 1-3.
