FAR Eastern University reached the UAAP women's volleyball finals for the first time in nine years, beating Ateneo, 25-20, 25-21, 14-25, 25-19, in the Final Four on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Graduating hitter Bernadeth Pons led FEU with 17 points, 16 digs and 19 excellent receptions for the Lady Tamaraws, who are looking to end a 10-year title drought.
Toni Rose Basas had 17 markers from 12 hits two blocks and three service aces in the match that took almost two hours to finish.
“Pinaghirapan namin 'yun, pinlano namin talaga, nag-usap-usap kaming mga players, ang dami naming sinakripisyo para makarating dito dahil, ten years na medyo isang dekada na wala sa Final ang FEU,” said Lady Tamaraws coach George Pascua.
Down 9-11 in the fourth set, the Lady Tamaraws cruised to a 6-0 run to gain control, 15-11, all the way to reach match point, 24-16.
The Lady Eagles saved three match points but Negrito stopped Jhoana Maraguinot’s attack to seal the win for FEU.
Kat Tolentino and Maraguinot finished with 11 points apiece for Ateneo.
