FAR Eastern University booked its fourth straight Final Four stint in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament after surviving a tough challenge from Adamson University, 25-22, 25-27, 14-25, 25-22, 15-11, on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Skipper Bernadeth Pons was impressive both on offense and defense for the Lady Tamaraws with 22 points 23 digs and 24 excellent receptions.
FEU tightened its grip on third spot at 8-4 behind early semifinalists La Salle at 9-2 and Ateneo at 9-3.
Adamson suffered its seventh loss in 12 marches, still in fifth place behind National University (6-6).
“‘Yun naman talaga ang goal namin na mag-top two kasi hinahabol namin ang twice to beat advantage,” said FEU coach George Pascua.
“Hopefully ’yung mga susunod na games pa namin mas pagbubutihan namin kasi nabigyan kami ng chance, so ‘yung chance na nabigay sa amin hindi na namin pakakawalan,” he added.
The Lady Tamaraws have a chance to claim a twice-to-beat advantage if they can sweep their last two games against University of the East and National University.
Celine Domgingo who had 18 points, including six of FEU’s 14 blocks. Toni Rose Basas had nine attacks, two blocks and five of the Lady Tams’ 10 aces, while Heather Guino-o scored 12.
Team captain Jema Galanza had 16 points for Adamson, Mylene Paat added 15, Mary Joy Dacoron contributed 12 and Eli Soyud had 12.
The Lady Falcons need to win their remaining matches against La Salle and University of Sto Tomas to have a chance of reaching the semifinals.
