FAR Eastern University beat Ateneo, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16, for its fourth straight win in the 75th UAAP women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Rosemarie Vargas and Marjorie Roxas finished with 11 points apeice, while Marie Toni Basas and Wenneth Eulalio contributed 10.
Lady Tamaraws improved their win-loss record to 5-4 and moved to joint fifth spot with National University, which defeated University of the Philippines, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18.
Alyssa Valdez had 15 markers on 14 attacks and one service ace for Ateneo, which absorbed its third successive loss but remained in second spot at 6-3.
La Salle leads with a 7-1 record followed by Ateneo, UST (5-3), Adamson (5-3), NU (5-4), FEU (5-4), UP (1-8), UE (0-8).
FEU coach Kid Santos said they entered the match so prepared that they expected no less than a four-set victory.
"Sabi ko sa kanila kagabi, kung eighty percent lang ang laro nila (FEU) mananalo kami ng straight sets," said Santos. "Or kung hindi man, four sets ang laro pero panalo pa din kami."
The Morayta-based spikers have won all of their games under Santos, who replaced Nes Pamilar on December 28 last year.
Dindin Santiago finished with 16 points, while Myla Pablo chipped in 12 for NU.
Liezchel Tiu produced six markers for the Lady Maroons, who only won one game in nine outings.
