FAR Eastern University bagged its second straight win in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament, beating University of the East, 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-22 on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

Bernadeth Pons scored 21 points, all from spikes, and had 24 digs, while former UE standout Celine Domingo added 19 markers, including 11 attacks and six of the team’s 12 blocks FEU, which improved to 3-2, tied with Ateneo.

“It’s a good comeback na naman kasi galing kami sa talo, dalawa. So hopefully ma-sustain namin by the end of the season,” said FEU coach George Pascua.

“Ang objective naman namin every game is manalo, either five, four or three sets,” he added.

Pascua, however, did not hide his disappointment when FEU wasted a chance to quickly dispose of UE.

“Masyado silang mababait sa kalaban,” said the veteran coach. “Pagdating sa training masyadong mahirap ang ginagawa sana ’yung pagiging Tamaraw nila kailangan sugud nang sugod.”

“Kasi minsan may mga times na ayaw sumugod eh, humihinto. Though matapang naman ang mga players ko masyado lang mabait sa kalaban,” he added.

The Lady Warriors remained winless in six outings, suffering their 14th straight loss since the second round of last season.

UE athletic director Rod Roque called the shots for the Lady Warriors after head coach Francis Vicente tendered his resignation.
