COACH George Pascua rued Far Eastern University’s errors as the lack of experience showed in a straight-set defeat to La Salle in the opener of the best-of-three series in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Spikers, in their 10th straight finals stint, clobbered the Lady Tamaraws, 29-27, 25-21, 25-22, on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
FEU fought back from a huge early deficit, but the Lady Tamaraws’ unforced errors allowed the Lady Spikers to regain control.
“Sabi ko nga sa players ko, hindi ako nate-threaten kung sinumang kalaban ninyo, mas nate-threaten ako kapag nag-errors kayo nang sobra-sobra,” said FEU coach George Pascua, whose team committed 34 errors, including 17 in the first set.
“Especially ’yung service kasi individual errors kasi ’yun eh. If you serve, pag nag-commit ka ng error, hindi kasalanan ng receiver or what. ’Yung individual character or errors, ’yun ang nagpatalo sa amin,” he added.
Pascua also cited the team’s lack of experience in the finals. The last time that FEU made it to the finals was in Season 71 when it went up against eventual champion La Salle.
“Isa pa ’yung experience na ’yun,” said the veteran mentor. “Kasi sabi ko nga sa kanila, kapag ang players sa mga crucial point nagse-service error, ibig sabihin hindi pa ganung ka-confident ’yung experience sa ganung scenario.”
“So sabi ko, kailangan lang ’yung composure nila kailangang hindi mawala. Kasi sabi ko nga nothing to lose eh,” he added.
FEU looks to even the series on Wednesday.
“‘Yung experience na nakuha namin sa nangyari ngayon, plus lessen ng errors, walang imposible. Hindi kami hihinto hangga’t hindi natatapos ang laban, so back to drawing board ulit kami,” said Pascua.
