FAR Eastern University coach George Pascua hopes to solve their problems after a rough start in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Tamaraws’ first three matches all went down the wire as they escaped Ateneo, 19-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 15-9, but failed against Adamson 23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 12-15 and La Salle 22-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23, 7-15.
Pascua, who took over June last year, sees only one reason for their collapse - errors.
“‘Yung errors namin, ‘yun ‘yung medyo ‘di namin na sustain pagdating nung fifth set. Sana mag-mature kami sa ganung bagay,” he said.
FEU had a total of 114 errors in their first three matches - 39 against Ateneo, 29 in their loss to Adamson and an alarming 46 miscues when they faced La Salle.
The Lady Tamaraws basically give their opponent 38 extra points per game or 7.6 extra points per set in the 15 sets that they played.
In their game against La Salle, FEU actually had seven errors in the fifth set alone - a frustrating reality that could’ve turned the tables to its favor.
Still, Pascua urged his wards to be more aggressive and show grit as they look to end the skid in their next game.
“Maging aggressive pa kami, ang labanan kasi ngayon eh kung sino ang gusto manalo, ‘yun ang mananalo,” he said.
“Kasi pare-pareho naman ng skill halos eh. Wala ka ng pwedeng ‘mahina 'to, malakas yan’. Siguro sa decision making na lang ng players pagdating sa court,” he added.
FEU will face University of the Philippines on Saturday.
