SAN BEDA has tasked Edgar Barroga to revive its women's volleyball program as the new coach of the Lady Red Spikers.
The Gerflor Defenders head coach replaced Ariel Dela Cruz after the women’s volleyball team ended the NCAA Season 98 campaign with an underwhelming 1-8 record.

Barroga said he didn't hesitate on grabbing the opportunity of helping the Lady Red Spikers retool this offseason when offered the new role.
“May naka tune-up kami 'yung tied to San Beda, so yun, nalaman ko na available yung position. So, nilapitan ako kung interesado ako…Yun, na-excite ako kasi syempre NCAA to, San Beda to, so grinab ko kaagad.”
The new San Beda mentor will tasked to lead a retooled side that include new additions Justine Sillo, Jayde dela Cruz, Sophie Cagalawan, Gwen Bañas, Amber Biong, Erich Bula, Gina Espina, and transferee Reyann Cañete.
Though he admitted not being familiar with most of the players, Barroga assured he is going to instill better habits which in turn will bring the Lady Red Spikers back to winning ways.
“Di ko pa sila kasi nakikita so kaya excited ako at the same time na-challenge ako kung meron akong tamang mga tao para magsimula.”
He added: “Yung mai-offer ko lang syempre sa kanila is kung paano ko sila ibi-build as new, bagong training program. I hope na merong mga sponsor na sumuporta para mas-masuporta pa yung mga pangangailangan ng mga bata.”
Barroga also said he will remain in his concurrent role as coach of the NU-Nazareth School Bullpups and is looking to strengthen the team as well.
“Hindi ko sila iiwan, mga anak ko yan. So yung NU tuloy pa rin yan. Pinapalakas ko pa rin yung lineup. Medyo nag-uwian lang sila kasi sem break.”
