JOSE Rizal University upset San Sebastian College, 25-18, 25-20, 26-24, to keep its semifinal hopes alive in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball tournament on Thursday at the Arena in San Juan.
Dolly Grace Verzosa had 17 points off 16 kills and a service ace and made 16 digs and seven excellent receptions, while Karen Cay Montojo all her 14 points from attacks and had 17 digs.
The Lady Bombers improved their win-loss record to 4-3, in sixth place behind University of Perpetual Help (3-2) and needs to sweep their last two elimination games to keep its semis bid alive.
The Lady Bombers face third-running College of St. Benilde (4-1) next week.
Nikka Dalisay had 12 for San Sebastian, which dropped to fourth place with a 4-2 card.
San Sebastian tries to bounce back when it takes on San Beda (5-1) next week.
Meanwhile, San Sebastian men’s and juniors teams defeated the JRU squads.
Robbie Pamittan scored 16 and Timothy Eusebio added 12 as the Stags took down the Heavy Bombers, 25-22, 27-25, 25-15.
San Sebastian moved to solo fifth place with a 3-3 record, while JRU dropped to sixth with a 2-4 card.
In juniors play, San Sebastian (2-4) earned its second win with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-21 victory over JRU (3-4).
Bradley Dumalagan and Karl Lastimosa unloaded 11 points each, while John Mark Lim added 10 markers as San Sebastian climbed to eighth place, while JRU slipped to sixth place.
