DE LA Salle said on Monday that its women's volleyball team never registered for the Philippine National Games as it explained the no-show in the competitions being held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
DLSU coach Ramil De Jesus said the PNG competitions was never part of the Lady Spikers' calendar of events since it coincides with the opening week of classes in the university.
The stand runs contrary to a claim by the Philippine Volleyball Federation saying the Lady Archers were entered in the tournament registry by virtue of an online registration received by the organizing Philippine Sports Commission.
“Nag-start na kasi ang klase sa La Salle tsaka wala sa calendar ng La Salle ang PNG,” said De Jesus, who was in the stands during the opening day of the PNG volleyball tournament.
De Jesus, however, denied that they registered for the event.
The PVF had initially released a schedule with La Salle facing Philippine College of Criminology on opening day Monday, even though no team representative appeared during the technical committee meeting.
It was not clear who made the online registration on La Salle's behalf.
Volleyball fans online were looking forward to getting a glimpse of the reigning UAAP champions in the PNG, more so because the Bomberinas, a team being formed as the national squad, are also entered in the tournament.
“Kung kasali naman kami, sasali talaga kami kasi malapit lang kami sa Rizal Memorial (Sports Complex),” said De Jesus.
The Lady Archers recently won the PVF Intercollegiate crown in Benguet.
