OUTGOING Ateneo star Denden Lazaro has withdrawn from the Philippine Super Liga just days after being picked eighth overall by Foton.
The PSL released the official lineups on Tuesday and team captain Ivy Remulla said Lazaro wasn’t included because the tournament runs in conflict with her other commitments outside of volleyball.
The PSL All Filipino conference starts on March 21.
Lazaro is a graduating BS Biology student and reportedly considering going to medical school.
“Recently lang siya nag-confirm na hindi siya makakalaro ilang days after ng draft,” said Remulla.
Ateneo won its second straight UAAP women’s volleyball title, with Lazaro emerging as Best Receiver and Best Libero.
“Conflict din kasi sa schedule niya, sa Ateneo, sa team as a whole and siya rin may mga personal commitments din siya,” said Remulla.
“May mga plans siya what to do after the (UAAP) season that will conflict with the tournament,” she added.
“Then ’yun nga she also has plans of pursuing her studies so medyo tight ’yung schedule if she will play for the tournament,” said Remulla.
But in case Lazaro decides to play, Foton still holds the rights to the libero.
Foton, looking to improve on its fifth place finish in the PSL Grand Prix, has acquired the services of University of the Philippines players Angeli Araneta and Nicole Tiamzon, University of Santo Tomas team captain Pam Lastimosa and Ateneo spiker Ella de Jesus.
