THE Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has opened lines of communication with former Alas Pilipinas Women head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, taking what appears to be the first step toward a possible resolution.
As planned, talks pushed through on Tuesday between federation officials and de Brito, who was joined by his legal counsel, just hours before he handled Capital1 in its play-in game against Galeries Tower.

SPIN.ph learned that the initial discussions were both positive and encouraging for both sides.
Central to the talks were de Brito’s grievances over unpaid bonuses spanning five tournaments, concerns which were formally raised and acknowledged, with the PNVF set to further review the matter.
Deliberately left untouched, however, were the more contentious legal issues surrounding his contract and working visa, a move seen as strategic to avoid derailing early progress toward a settlement.

For now, both camps appear focused on building common ground before tackling more complex disputes.
More discussions to come
According to Atty. Rex Cruz, de Brito’s lawyer who was present during the meeting, Tuesday’s dialogue marks only the beginning of a series of discussions aimed at ironing out all outstanding concerns.
On his end, de Brito welcomed the development, expressing relief at finally engaging in direct talks with the federation after months of stalled communication.
He described the meeting as a “positive thing,” noting it as the first concrete step toward securing the compensation he has long been seeking.
