DANI Ravena shrugged off her Ateneo debut spent on the bench of the Lady Eagles as she considered her stint in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference the first step in her journey to make her own mark in a family of famous athletes.
The only daughter of former PBA standout Bong and ex-volleyball star Mozzy Ravena considered being a Ravena in the world of sports a blessing. But the sister of basketball phenom Kiefer and Ateneo player Thirdy also admitted that it also brings a bit of pressure on her.
"May onting pressure of course, hindi maiiwasan, but I'm happy because they're there to support me," said Dani. "Siguro sanay na rin ako kasi lumaki ako na ganon ang family ko na kilala sila na they are big athletes. I take it as a motivation na din, yes they're achievers but I know in myself na I can do also those things also."
"I can be myself and I can have a name also and not just be the sister of Kiefer and Thirdy and the anak of Bong and Mozzy. I mean, I'm proud to be one but I also want to be known to be a good volleyball player," she added.
Dani, the team's second setter next to Deanna Wong, took the void left by seasoned playmaker Jia Morado.
Mozzy, who was, coincidentally one of the match commentators, shared that while other people are putting too much pressure on Dani, everyone in the family are her cheerleaders and mentors.
"Ma-realidad naman kami, alam naman namin, athletes naman kaming lahat, we know the skill level. 'Yun nga lang bugbog siya sa amin sa pagpu-push. Di na niya kailangan magtanong sa amin ng tips kasi lahat kami nagsasalita na," said the supportive mother with a hearty laugh.
