CSB wallops winless Mapua to boost semis bid in NCAA women's volleyball

COLLEGE of St. Benilde improved its chance for the Final Four of the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament after it defeated listless Mapua, 25-18, 25-15, 25-17, on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.

Rachel Anne Austero and skipper Ranya Musa finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively, for CSB, which improved to third place tied with Jose Rizal University with a 5-3 win-loss record.

“Ang target namin is ma-improve namin ang mga areas na kailangan namin i-improve coming into sa next games namin na which is ‘yun ang crucial against Perpetual,” said CSB coach Arnold Laniog.

“Nabigyan din ng chance ang ibang players na ma-feel ang experience sa loob ng court kung paano maglaro,” he added.

The Lady Blazers will face University of Perpetual Help (5-2) on Tuesday.

Team captain Katrina Racelis, Lorraine Barias and Patria Pena each had five points for Mapua, which absorbed its 18th straight loss in two seasons.
