COLLEGE of St. Benilde and Emilio Aguinaldo College scored straight-set wins on Monday to forge a four-way logjam atop the standings in the 88th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Blazers whipped Letran, 25-19, 25-23, 25-18, while the Lady Generals clobbered Mapua 25-12, 15-17, 25-14 in only 54 minutes, transforming the match into a mere workout.
St. Benilde and EAC improved their win-loss records to 2-0, matching the cards of defending champion Perpetual Help and Arellano University.
All but three players scored for EAC, with Charmille Belleza leading the way with 10 points on seven attacks and three service aces. The Lady Cardinals remained winless in two outings.
St. Benilde was led by Jannine Navarro and Rossan Fajardo, who finished with 17 and 14 markers, respectively.
In men’s action, Letran trounced St. Benilde, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19, with Rudy Gatdula and Ericson Ramos leading the Knights with 10 points apiece.
Marjun Alingasa scored 12 points to emerge as the lone Blazer in double figures.
