ALYSSA Valdez is bracing for tougher battles ahead after Creamline booked its place in the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

“It's just the beginning of a mas harder and tougher tournament sa semis kasi naghihintay na lang sa amin ang BaliPure at Power Smashers,” said Valdez after Cool Smashers secured a spot in the semis via 25-16, 26-24, 25-17 win over Air Force on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.

The rookie team struggled with a 1-4 win-loss record at the end of the first round before their imports were finally allowed to suit up in the second game of the second round following the release of their International Transfer Certificates (ITC).

Creamline ended the elimination round with a 4-6 win-loss record but got a new lease on life in the quarterfinals.

Now, Valdez is hoping the extra games in the quarterfinals will help the team finally achieve better chemistry and reach top form heading to the semifinals.

“We hope na it will be an advantage for us na naglaro pa kami ng extra games sa quarterfinals,” said the former Ateneo star.

Valdez and the team also draw strength from coaches Tai Bundit and Oliver Almadro.

“They're very opposite, kasi Coach Tai more of motivation, Coach O will always give motivation and mga specific na details during the game,” she said. “Also Coach Tai, I think they're a good mix para naba-balance din everything.”
