VOLLEYBALL fans get a glimpse of the new Philippine national teams in a showcase-fundraiser set on April 28 at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Members of the men’s pool will see action at 4 p.m., with the women’s match set at 6 o’clock in the event dubbed ‘Clash of Heroes.’
The teams are preparing for the Southeast Asian Games and other international events.
Proceeds of the event organized by the PSC-POC Media Group in cooperation with Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. and the Philippine Sports Commission will be used for the foreign training of the national team.
The coaching staff said the event is also still part of the selection process for the teams.
"Isa sa basehan namin para mag-trim down kami from 25 to 18," said Philippine women's team assistant coach Nene Ybanez-Chavez during Tuesday's Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
"Kailangan, all-out sila kasi hindi pangalan ang kukunin namin kundi performance. May aim kami sa SEA Games and that is to be on top kaya abilidad ang pag-uusapan dito."
"Ginagawan din namin ng programa 'yun para maisama sa programa ni coach Sammy (Acaylar, men's team coach)," added men’s team assistant coach Macky Carino.
LVPI acting president Peter Cayco said the federation plans to hold legs in Cebu and Davao next month so that fans can also get a chance to see the national pool in action.
"Each game, hindi same group ang magkakampi. We are going to mix it up," Cayco said.
For his part, men's national team assistant coach Macky Carino is also preparing the pool members for the tune-up match.
Tickets are priced at P200 for lower box and P100 for upper box and are available at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum media center, Pablo Ocampo St., Malate, Manila.
