Cignal HD outdueled Iloilo, 27-25, 31-33, 25-16, 25-18, to regain the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League men’s division at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night.
The HD Spikers completed a sweep of the tournament behind Most Valuable Player Joshua Umandal to improve on their runner-up finish to University of Santo Tomas last season.
Umandal hits 28 points
Umandal erupted for 28 points on 23 hits, four blocks, and an ace to fend off the gritty resistance from the D’Navigators for their second title.
The national team member drew solid support from skipper JP Bugaoan with 23 points on 15 attacks, five blocks, and three aces while Mark Frederick Calado and Lloyd Josafat threw in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
How sweep it is
Cignal swept Pool A before making short work of VNS Asereht in the semifinals to accomplish what its women’s counterparts failed to do.
The women’s squad also swept the eliminations but bowed to Petro Gazz in the final.
Kyle Villamor tallied 24 points while John San Andres and Jayvee Sumagaysay had 11 and 10 points for the D’Navigators mentored by RizalitoDelmoro.
