AJ Pareja and Ish Polvorosa will reinforce Cignal for the 2019 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference as HD Spikers coach Dexter Clamor turned to some familiar faces to beef up his roster.
Pareja, the UAAP Season 72 MVP, was teammates with Clamor in Systema back in 2013 in the Philippine Super Liga.
He has spent the past year focusing on his medical career, on top of him serving as an analyst in ABS-CBN's coverage of the games.
"Nag-retire na si AJ kasi gusto niyang mag-focus sa career niya as a doctor, pero in-encourage ko siya to play indoor again dahil sa tingin ko malaki pa ang maitutulong niya sa team,” said Clamor of the 6-for-4 middle blocker.
"His maturity, experience, and leadership can help a lot sa team. He was also a former national team player and UAAP MVP during his time, he is very fit to play pa rin."
Polvorosa, meanwhile, is a five-time UAAP Best Setter who is making his return to Cignal after missing the last conference to focus on the elections.
Aside from the two, the HD Spikers have also enlisted the services of former UP open hitter Alfred Valbuena and libero Sandy Montero.
Valbuena is making his first club appearance after graduating from the Fighting Maroons in 2017, while Montero returns to Cignal after a short run with Air Force.
The quartet's addition to the HD Spikers will be a big boost for the Reinforced Conference champions after the departure of Jude Garcia, JP Bugaoan, and Owen Suarez, who will return to their collegiate squad Far Eastern University for the Open Conference.
