BORACAY – UAAP champions Cherry Rondina and Rica Rivera of UST advanced to the Nestea Beach Volleyball finals by defeating University of Mindanao Davao, 24-22, 21-12, on Saturday at Bocaray Beach Chalet.
Reynalyn Raterta and Mayshiel Agton of UM-D were the first to reach set point, 20-19, but a miscue from their side tied the match to give UST the momentum.
From a tied 22-all contest Rondina scored on a solid block followed by Rivera’s service ace to push UST to the title match.
The Espana-based duo faces the winner of the semifinal between La Salle and Southwestern University.
Before the tough loss to UST, UMD turned back Adamson’s Bang Pineda and Amanda Villanueva, 21-18, 18-21, 15-11.
SWU defeated University of Mindanao-Tagum, 21-10, 21-18, for the right to face La Salle.
