PETER Cayco has been elected the new president of the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas on Thursday in a poll held at the LVPI office inside the Arellano University campus in Taft Avenue, Manila.
Former vice-president Cayco was unanimously voted by the LVPI board to assume the presidency, replacing Joey Romasanta who slid down to vice-president after serving as the federation's head for three years.
“We are very fortunate that a very able president is now leading LVPI,” said Romansanta.
Philippine Super Liga finance director Ariel Paredes was elected the new secretary general, replacing Ricky Palou, and Col. Jeff Tamayo was voted treasurer.
Gen. Benjamin Espiritu was voted chairman of the board while the UAAP’s Rod Roque, Ian Laurel and Atty. Mon Malinao were named to the board.
“We’ll buckle down to business continuing lang the program set by Mr. Romasanta. Kung ano ang ginagawa niya, itutuloy lang natin,” Cayco said.
Cayco vowed to pay attention to the federation's grassroots program, which he got rolling through the LVPI Shakey’s Inter-Secondary Tournament, a school-based nationwide competition.
The NCR leg concluded with University of Santo Tomas girls’ volleyball Teams A and B competed with the latter winning the crown.
“It’s going to be school-based. Maganda ‘yun kasi may NCAA, UAAP then si Shakey’s naman all over the country. So mako-consolidate na natin ang grassroots program,” said Cayco.
But for the regional legs, LVPI will have a more comprehensive tournament plan, which covers regional eliminations, including key cities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, before the national finals in Manila.
