LA Salle’s injury woes deepened as doctors confirmed Camille Cruz has suffered an ACL tear in her right knee, the third time she has sustained the injury in her career.
Edwin Reyes, La Salle’s representative to the UAAP board, confirmed the injury and Cruz, who went down in the third set of the opener of the finals against Ateneo, will miss the rest of the UAAP women’s volleyball title series.
The injury came as a big blow to the Lady Spikers, who had already lost leading scorer and leader Ara Cruz prior to the finals when she suffered ACL, MCL, and meniscus tears, as well as a bone bruise in her left knee.
Top-seeded and thrice-to-beat Ateneo won the series opener in straight sets, and is a win away from back-to-back titles and a rare season sweep.

Cruz was able to walk on her own, using a crutch, out of the Smart-Araneta Coliseum. However, an MRI scan at the Makati Medical Center on Wednesday night showed she had torn a ligament.
It is the third time Cruz suffered an ACL tear in her injury-plagued career, the last time in 2012.
