UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas faces its biggest battle in years in the UAAP women's volleyball tournament in a week's time.

But before that, the Tigresses get a much-deserved four-day break from coach Kungfu Reyes, getting the chance to recharge and reflect after making the UAAP Final Four for the first time in four seasons.

Tigresses team captain Sisi Rondina already flew to Cebu on Wednesday to spend time with family especially her mother, who is back after working for 14 straight years in Brunei.

“Pinauwi ko na sila, they deserve a break para sa Holy Week, lalo na ang bata na ito (Rondina),” said Reyes, who also plans to go back to his hometown Lucena during the Lenten break.

“Para sa kanila na ang Holy Week, para magnilay-nilay naman kami pare-pareho at hindi magkasawaan ng mukha,” he added.

When practice resumes on Monday, Reyes expects the Tigresses to dig in as they prepare to take on a second-seeded and twide-to-beat La Salle Lady Spikers side.

The defending champions Lady Spikers also swept their season series against UST, winning in four sets in the first round of the eliminations and in straight sets in the second round.

    But Rondina is unfazed.

“Syempre po, trabaho pa rin kami sa training namin, ayusin namin kung ano man ang mga mali namin,” said the pride of Compostela, Cebu.

“Goal namin is dumating na (makapasok sa Final Four), kaya ang sabi ni coach, mangangarap kami ng todo-todo para sa team namin,” she added.
