Cagayan coach Nes Pamilar still confident underachieving Lady Rising Suns will regain old, deadly form

    Jun 2, 2014

DESPITE finally ending its three-game losing skid in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference, Cagayan Valley coach Nes Pamilar thinks his team is much better that what its record currently says.

Pamilar believes the Lady Rising Suns failed to play according to their potential after losing to AirAsia (24-26, 19-25, 25-27), PLDT Home TVolution (22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25), and Petron (25-22, 14-25, 20-25, 21-25) as they find themselves at the cellar of the standings with a 0-3 record.

The team eventually ended the bleeding with a remarkable four-set win over two-time champion Generika-Army on Sunday, 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17.

“Hindi biro ang line-up namin. Ang ganda ng line-up namin pero bakit ganyan ang nangyayari,” said the Cagayan coach, obviously puzzled with his team’s lowly record despite parading an impressive roster bannered by Angge Tabaquero and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas.

“Ang ine-ensayo namin hindi ko makita na ginagawa nila sa game,” he lamented.

Cagayan, which completed a tournament sweep to win the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference title last year, has been practicing at The Arena in San Juan every night which according to Pamilar always went well.

Unfortunately, the Lady Rising Suns had not been translating it during games.

"Maganda ang ensayo namin, pero sa first, second, at third game namin, hindi ko nakikita ang ine-ensayo namin," said the veteran mentor with a husky voice.

Aside from Tabaquero and Maizo, also in the Cagayan roster are Janine Marciano of San Beda, Pau Soriano and Bhebs Pineda of Adamson, Wenneth Eulalio and Rosemarie Vargas of Far Eastern University, and Joy Benito of San Sebastian College.

But after breaking into the win column, Pamilar is hopeful the Lady Rising Suns would finally be able to regain their old deadly form.

“Pilit namin ibabalik ang tingin ng mga tao sa amin (na contender kami)," he said. "Ang goal namin dito makapasok sa quarterfinals, tapos sa semis, tapos tignan natin kung san mapupunta sunod."
