TOKYO — Bryan Bagunas seeks to win his last tune-up game with the Philippine men’s volleyball team against FC Tokyo anew on Thursday at the Fukagawa Gym.
Before he goes back with Oita Miyoshi on Friday morning, Bagunas wants to cap his short stay with the Nationals on a high note.
“Hangad din namin matalo to sa next tune-up,” said the former UAAP MVP after Wednesday’s practice at the Sagamitana Highschool Gym. “Sana maging maganda yung performance namin sa last tune-up ko with them para maganda yung paghiwalay ko sa team dito sa Japan.”
The Rebisco-back team salvaged a set against Division I’s FC Tokyo for a 22-25, 15-25, 25-21, 18-25 result on Tuesday.
National head coach Dante Alinsunurin was impressed with how his wards, bannered by Bagunas, Marck Espejo, Ranran Abdilla, and Johnvic de Guzman, fought hard in each set.
As they take on FC Tokyo for the last time at 2 p.m. (Manila time) after their morning session at the venue, Alinsunurin hopes to sustain their good showing as he looks to field his second stringers like Ish Polvorosa, Joshua Umandal, Rex Intal and Mark Alfafara.
“Sa akin naman kailangan ko lang ipasok ko lang ulit yung ibang players na di ko naipasok ngayon,” he said. “Importante rin is makasunod kami sa sistema naming ipapasok dito, kahit sinong ipasok namin dapat makuha yung gusto namin mangyari sa loob ng court.”
Bagunas, for his part, is putting premium on team chemistry, hoping to see it improve when he comes back three days before the SEA Games begin.
“Siyempre (dapat) makakuha pa ng communication sa kanila para pagdating ng SEA Games solid na kami,” Bagunas said during a lull in the training camp that's made possible by Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. and Philippine Sports Commission.
