MEGA Builders scored a surprisingly quick victory over Cignal in a battle of league leaders, posting a, 26-24, 26-24, 25-17 win on Wednesday in the 2017 Premier Volleyball League at Ynares Arena in Pasig City.
Philippine team member Bryan Bagunas had 17 points from 14 attacks, one block and two service acesas Mega Builders took the solo lead with its fifth win in as many matches.
"Hindi (namin ineexpect manalo ng straight sets) pero confident kami na kaya naming laruin yung Cignal," Coach Ariel Dong de la Cruz said.
"Yung team, slowly but surely nag-mamature na. Ayun ang hinahanap namin sa kanila at 'yung focus simula first point hanggang matapos 'yung laro," he added.
It was Cignal’s first loss after four wins.
Philippine Air Force shook off a sluggish start to defeat Instituto Estetico Manila 13-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-14, to gain a share of second place with a 4-1 win-loss record.
"Ang nangyari sa amin parang diesel na matagal bago uminit. Noong third set medyo na-gain nila yung confidence nila kaya yung intensity nagtuloy-tuloy kaya medyo gumanda yung laro namin," Air Force coach Clarence Esteban said.
Philippine team member Alnakran Abdilla led Air Force with 21 points, while Nino Jeruz, Reuben Inaudito and Howard Mojica chipped in 12 points apiece.
Air Force will battle Cignal, while Mega Builders takes on Sta. Elena on July 22.
