FAR Eastern University star Bernadeth Pons cited miscommunication as the reason for their loss to Adamson University on Saturday in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
Pons did not specify the issues they had to deal with but said she hopes to get other Lady Tamaraws more involved in scoring.
“After ng game, nag-usap kami agad sa loob ng court, sabi ko sa kanila na hindi naman tayo natalo dahil sobrang lakas ng Adamson,” she said.
“Natalo tayo kasi meron tayong mga miscommunication sa crucial na parte ng laro.”
Adamson took the lead, 8-6, in the fifth set after Jeanette Villareal’s back-to-back errors.
The Lady Tamaraws kept within striking distance, 10-12, but Jema Galanza took charge and the Lady Falcons escaped with the win.
Pons, who had 22 points, 16 digs and 13 excellent receptions, also urged her teammates to work doubly hard especially on offense, saying they have a lot of time to recover.
“Kailangan talaga is lahat pumupuntos. Kailangan distributed 'yung points. Siguro, mas marami lang bolang binigay sa amin ni Chin kanina. Kailangan talaga lahat mas mag-contribute,” she said.
“Second game pa lang namin so sabi ko kailangan namin mag-cheer up. Hindi kaming pwede ma-down, may mga susunod pa na games, babawi pa din kami and sobrang haba pa ng season,” she said.
FEU, 1-1, faces unbeaten La Salle on Wednesday.
