ACTION resumes finally after a long wait as the top-seeded Ateneo Lady Eagles clash with titleholders La Salle Lady Spikers in the UAAP women’s volleyball finals on Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Michelle Morente, Jia Morado, Bea de Leon and Jhoana Maraguinot have led the Lady Eagles to the top of the table and now look to prove they can finish the job and claim the crown.
Ateneo defeated La Salle twice in the eliminations and are looking to keep the dominance.
The last time the Lady Eagles played a competitive match was eight days ago when they disposed of the FEU Lady Tamaraws in the semifinals.
The Lady Spikers booked their spot in the finals a day earlier, eliminating the Uiversity of Sto. Tomas Tigresses.
The opener of the title series starts at 4 p.m.
The change in schedule due to the Asean Summit meant the opener of the series will fall on exam week at Ateneo, but the Lady Eagles are eager to prove they can do it all.
The first match of the best-of-three series was originally scheduled April 29 but was moved to May 2.
Ateneo is also looking to bag a UAAP women’s volleyball title for the first time without Alyssa Valdez, who led the team to titles in 2014 and 2015.
“Napaisip din kami na kaya din namin, kaya din namin na kami lang, na we won't depend on someone,” said Morente.
“We have to trust sa isa't isa. Kailangan namin magbigay ng trust sa isa't isa, at mag-depend kami sa sarili namin, hindi na lang sa isang tao,” she added.
“So I think kailangan lang talaga namin magtulung-tulungan sa loob ng court,” said Morente.
