ATENEO capitalized on Far Eastern University's errors in the final frame and hammered out a thrilling 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25, 15-8 victory in the UAAP women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Four straight errors by the Lady Tamaraws allowed the Lady Eagles to take control and score their eighth straight victory.
Ateneo clinched a final four spot with a 9-1 win-loss record, while the FEU reeled to sixth spot with a 5-5 card.
Jo Maraguinot led the Lady Eagles with 23 points including 19 spikes.
Michelle Morente scored 15 and Bea de Leon added 12 points.
"Buti na lang napunta sa amin yung break nung huli," said Ateneo assistant coach Sherwin Meneses.
While they are happy with being assured of a Final Four, Meneses said they are careful not to get ahead of themselves, noting that four matches remain in their elimination-round schedule.
"Step by step lang," he said. "Every game paghahandaan lang namin. Pero masaya rin kami syempre sa panalo."
Bernadeth Pons fired 19 points, Toni Rose Basas scattered 14, while Remy Palma scored 12 for the Lady Tamaraws.
