JEAN Balse delivered the goods for Philippine Army as it survived PLDT MyDSL in a thrilling five-setter on Sunday in the Philippine Super Liga at the Philsports Arena.
With the game on the line and the Lady Troopers protecting a slim 12-10 lead in the deciding set, the former University of Santo Tomas star readily took over and scored three successive points to finish off the Speed Boosters, 25-14, 24-26, 25-23, 19-25, 15-10.
In winning their third win in four games, the Lady Troopers needed two hours and two minutes to dispose of the Speed Boosters.
Army is now tied with Cagayan Valley (3-1) on top of the standings.
Michelle Carolino showed the way for the Lady Troopers with 18 points, while team captain Joanne Bunag added 15, Jacqueline Alarca contributed 12, Nene Bautista and Balse chipped in 11 each, and Tina Salak also with 10.
Philippine Army also capitalized on the 31 errors committed by PLDT MyDSL compared to the 21 miscues it tallied.
Pau Soriano had 20 points for PLDT MyDSL, while skipper Lou Ann Latigay added 17, and Charmaine Moralde and Angela Benting finished with 16 and 13 markers, respectively.
The Speed Boosters slid in a tie for third spot with PCSO Bingo Milyonaryo at 1-3.
