CANDON CITY — The cities of Candon and Vigan have lodged a joint bid to host the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup.
Candon’s first hosting of an international sporting event with the ongoing 2025 SEA V.League and Vigan’s newly-constructed Chavit Coliseum paved the way for the Heritage Province to open its doors to the regional tilt.

“I offered him [Candon City Mayor Eric Singson] last night to host the 2026 AVC Women’s Nations Cup next year,” Philippine National Volleyball Federation president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara bared upon heaping praise on the ‘international-caliber’ Candon City Arena.
“Men ngayon, women naman next year and this will be 12 women’s national teams in Asia.
“Dito [Candon] ang main event, kahit na maghati [sa Vigan] ang tig-six na teams dahil 12 teams kasi yun, but the quarterfinals, the semifinals, finals match will be here in Candon City.”
Another step forward for Philippine volleyball
As of now, Suzara, concurrently the AVC executive vice president, said that the Ilocano bid remains uncontested. Other countries, though, still have two months to express intent to host next year’s regional competitions before the AVC convenes on September 5.
The Philippines recently hosted two AVC competitions - the Challenge Cup last year and the Women’s Champions League this year in Pasig City.
Taking another continental competition outside Metro Manila is what Suzara described as a big step forward for ‘Philippine volleyball tourism’ ahead of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in September.
