ATENEO clobbered University of the East, 25-17, 25-12, 25-12, on Saturday to tighten its grip on third spot in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Alyssa Valdez came up with 20 points, while A Ahomiro added 11 for the Lady Eagles, while second stringers Michelle Morente and Ael Patnongon came up huge with added eight and four, respectively.
"Masaya naman ako sa performance nila (Morente and Patnongon)," said team captain Valdez. "Kaya lang nag-aalangan pa sila pumalo."
Ateneo improved its win-loss record to 8-4 to stay firmly in third place behind league-leading La Salle (11-0) and second-running National University (11-1).
Adamson University and Far Eastern University are tied at the fourth spot with 6-6.
Ateneo, Adamson and FEU each still have two matches left in the eliminations. A loss by either will give the Lady Eagles the third spot in the semifinals.
Shaya Adorador finished with 11 points for the Lady Warriors, who are winless in 12 outings.
