ATENEO skipper Maddie Madayag lauded the Lady Eagles for their hard work, while downplaying the effect of outside criticism in their run to the Final Four of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Eagles booked their eighth straight semifinal appearance with a five-set win over University of Sto. Tomas.
Told that there were observers who doubted they would reach the semifinals after a poor start to the season, Madayag simply shrugged it off.
“We don't really play for other people, we play for our school, we play for ourselves,” stressed Madayag. “So, it's not (an issue) parang okay we proved them wrong.”
“Sorry sa inyo kasi you doubted us. I guess 'yun na lang, watch us this season na lang and look how we play,” she added.
Ateneo improved to 9-3 to join La Salle, which had already secured a semifinal spot with a 9-2 win-loss record.
“We were taught not to mind (the doubters). Kasi maraming mga bashers, mga doubters, mga ganyan. What will happen if you mind them? 'Di ba wala naman,” she said.
