Dec 9, 2014
The Alyssa Valdez-led Ateneo Lady Eagles come up with a four-set win in the first of four scheduled matches.

ATENEO is off to a flyer in the 17th Asean University Games as the Lady Eagles scored a 25-21, 25-18, 15-25, 25-8 win over Malaysia on Tuesday in Palembang Indonesia.

UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez scored 20 points and rookie Bea de Leon added 12 markers.

Pint-seized Ella De Jesus and Jhoanna Maraguinot contributed eight and seven points, respectively, for Ateneo.

The UAAP defending champion will next face host country Indonesia on Wednesday at 4 p.m. (Manila time).

"I'm very happy for our first win, especially that it was the Lady Eagles' first time representing the Philippines. Beating the Malaysian national team was a very big morale booster for the team. We promise to play harder in the next game," said Valdez, the Ateneo Lady Eagles team captain.
