“I feel sad because of the loss but happy because we were able to show Indonesia that even though we're only a university team we were able to play with them at their level,” said Valdez, noting that they were facing the Indonesian national team.
The UAAP champions still have matches against Thailand on Friday and Singapore on Saturday. One more win will move Ateneo to the bronze medal match.
Ateneo team manager Tony Boy Liao said he was still pleased with the Lady Eagles’ performance and noted that sportswriters covering the tournament were impressed with the Filipinas’ level of play.
“Most of the press can't believe that the Lady Eagles are only a college team, they thought it was the Philippine team,” said Liao.
