    Ateneo Lady Eagles beat La Salle from two-sets down to send UAAP Finals to deciding third game

    ATENEO rose from the grave on Wednesday, overcoming a two-set deficit and a second-set meltdown to beat La Salle, 18-25, 26-28, 25-17, 25-16, 15-11, and send the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball finals to a deciding third game.

    The Lady Eagles looked down and out after wasting four set points in the second frame to fall 0-2 behind, but came back to life behind Alyssa Valdez to pull off the mother of all comebacks before more than 20,000 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena.

    The win levelled the best-of-three finals t 1-1, keeping alive the Lady Eagles' quest for a third successive championship.

    Game Three is set on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

    Alyssa Valdez led all scorers with 34 points as the Lady Eagles pulled off another squeaker over the Lady Spikers. Ateneo also needed five sets to beat La Salle in their second-round elimination match.

    La Salle saved four match points to take the second set, 28-26, and looked on the way to another straight-sets win but a determined Valdez carried the Lady Eagles to victory, with 32 of her points scored on attacks.

    Valdez came up with a huge attack that put the Lady Eagles ahead, 11-7, in the fifth set and the Lady Eagles held on for the win.

    Jhoana Maraguinot had 15 points, 13 on spikes, while Bea De Leon scored 12 points for the Lady Eagles.

    Kim Dy had 16 points, Mika Reyes scored 14, and Ara Galang added 12 for the Lady Spikers.

    Galang appeared to suffer a leg injury in the third set, heading to the locker room to see the physical therapist before returning to action in the fourth.
