ATENEO captain Jia Morado is determined not to put its first-place finish in the elimination round to waste as the Lady Eagles prepare for their UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball Final Four match against Far Eastern University.
Morado said she is determined not to let their guards down even with a twice-to-beat advantage especially against a tough Lady Tamaraws squad that took the Lady Eagles to five sets in both meetings this season.
“First and second round five sets pareho. We are not going to deny na FEU is a strong team, which is what we are preparing for,” Morado said.
Ateneo defeated La Salle in the final elimination round game of the season, sweeping their archrival Lady Spikers in their season series, to take the top spot in the Final Four.
Morado considered the feat a pleasant surprise even as pundits didn’t consider the Lady Eagles among the title favorites due to the graduation of Alyssa Valdez. But she also added that it was a testament to the hardwork the team has put in this season.
“I think it really means a lot kasi we didn’t expect we get this far, to come out as number one in the eliminations. I think its fulfilling for the team talaga kasi sobrang pinaghirapan namin,” the 21-year-old said.
Ateneo could meet De La Salle again in the finals with the Lady Spikers being the second-ranked squad in the Final Four, but Morado doesn’t want to get ahead of herself.
“I think so,” said Morado, when asked if the Lady Eagles will have the upper hand if they face La Salle again, “kasi we’ve beaten them twice na.”
“But it doesn’t mean na magiging complacent kami. It goes to show lang na kaya namin manalo kung gusto namin.” Gabriel Pe
