ATENEO and Far Eastern University gained a share of the lead after beating separate opponents in the UAAP Season 80 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Blue Eagles defeated University of the East in straight sets, 25-18, 25-22, 25-17, while the Tamaraws beat University of Santo Tomas in five sets, 28-26, 14-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-12.
With their wins, Ateneo and FEU are now tied with National University at first place with a 11-2 card heading into the final two playing dates of the eliminations. Only two teams will get the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
The three teams will see action in the final day of the regular season on Sunday with FEU taking on La Salle at 8 a.m., and NU battling Ateneo at 10 a.m.
Ron Adrian Medalla had 19 points, while Mark Espejo had 15 points for the Blue Eagles in the straight-sets win over UE, which remained winless in 13 games.
UST, with the loss to FEU, hurt its Final Four chances as the Tigers fell to 5-8, tying La Salle for fifth place.
