    No let-up in training as Ateneo prepares for Finals grudge match versus La Salle

    GUNNING for a third consecutive title in the UAAP women’s volleyball is already a tough task for Ateneo. And head coach Tai Bundit decided to make it even harder for the Lady Eagles.

    Well, at least during practice.

    On a humid Thursday afternoon at the Blue Eagle gym inside the Ateneo campus, Bundit once again ran his now-famous Spartan-like training regimen for the Katipunan-based squad, three days before the Lady Eagles face rival La Salle in the finals.

    The Thai coach looked more serious than ever, barking out instructions as the Lady Eagles went through their paces in a practice capped off with a game against Ateneo's men's team, which, incidentally, is also gunning for the championship in the finals.

    This is precisely what Bundit prefers, for his players to endure hard training now to be ready for difficult situations during the game.

    “Hard training so that in competition it will be easy,” said Bundit after practice.

    The third year Ateneo coach, however, still sees a lot more work that needs to be done for the Lady Eagles, who are looking to match La Salle's run of three successive league titles.

    “Ok, ok (in the training) but sometimes the players are not thinking how to do,” he said.

    But Bundit was quick to say that his team has long been ready for the Finals.

    Ateneo had an easy route to the championship after it disposed of No. 4 seed University of the Philippines in the semifinals, giving it a week to prepare for the grudge match against La Salle.

    “We are all ready,” he said.
