ATENEO is one win away from a sweep, but coach Oliver Almadro warned his players against complacency in the Spikers Turf finals against National University.

“Iko-quote ko si coach Tai (women’s coach Anusorn Bundit), ‘can win, can lose’ so hindi kami pwedeng mag complacent so every game can win can lose,” said Almadro.

The Blue Eagles needed an hour and 12 minutes to take the opening match of the best-of-three title series, their 12th win in as many matches, but Almadro refused to count the Bulldogs out.

“Every game kung magpe-prepare ka palagi the odds will be on your favor. I guess my players sacrificed a lot and prepared for this game and hopefully madala namin until Game Two,” Almadro said.

Almadro also reminded the Eagles that team success beats individual awards.

“I always tell my players, Ish (Polvorosa), Marck, Ysay, individual accolades when team success happens,” Almadro said.

“So no matter what it’s team effort ’yun ang lagi naming pinag-uusapan, ’yun ang lagi naming battle cry. So lahat sila thankful sa mga ng teammates nila kasi kung wala ang ibang teammates nila wala naman.”
