ATENEO opened its Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference title defense with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-16 rout of San Beda on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena.
Marck Espejo scored 13 points, while import Antony Koyfman added 11 points for the Blue Eagles.
“Actually, they’re not one hundred percent that’s why like last year Spikers’ Turf, every set I’m shuffling my players para malaman namin, all these in preparation for the UAAP,” said Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro.
“Meron lang akong kailangan i-adjust pa sa mga transition plays namin, tsaka sa depensa namin, but I guess all of the players naman are motivated to play well.”
The Blue Eagles face NCAA runner-up Emilio Aguinaldo College on Saturday, while the Red Lions take on University of Santo Tomas next Wednesday.
Perpetual Help also started its campaign on a winning note, downing the Philippine Merchant Marine School, 25-13, 25-17, 25-23.
Rey Taneo led the Altas with 14 points, 12 from spikes. Jeric Atentar added 10 points and Manuel Doliente contributed nine for Perpetual.
The Altas go up against La Salle on Saturday, while the Mariners take on National University on Monday.
