FORMER Ateneo setter Jia Morado made her comeback to the Lady Eagles' nest but as assistant coach in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference.
The UAAP Season 77 best setter, who announced that she will no longer play her fifth and final year with the Katipunan-based squad, came to The Arena in San Juan wearing the same blue Ateneo uniform worn by the coaching staff.
Morado, though, made it clear that she will be an assistant coach only for this conference.
"Siguro coach Tai (Bundit) thought na okay lang na mag-assistant coach ako kasi I was in the court with them once and I know 'yung ibang situations and maybe I can give useful input naman kapag kailangan nila," she said.
"For me na lang, personal reason (why I won't play anymore). I hope na lang na everyone respects my decision. (But) I'm always here hindi ko naman papabayaan ang girls basta-basta," she added.
It has been less than a week since she started her new role in the team and Morado is still adjusting in staying at the bench instead of playing on the court.
"Weird eh, Jia pa rin (tawag nila sa akin). Ayaw ko naman na coach, hindi rin ako sasagot kapag coach itatawag nila sa akin," she said laughing.
While some of today's coaches are former setters, Morado does not see herself being a full-time coach someday.
"Hindi ko pa siya naconsider, naisip ko lang but I'm not going to that path talaga," she said.
Alyssa Valdez also became an assistant coach for Ateneo in the Shakey's V-League Collegiate Conference last year after playing five years for the Lady Eagles.
