    Korea squeaks past Chinese Taipei to gain semifinals of Asian U23 Women's Volleyball tourney

    KOREA edged Chinese Taipei, 16-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 15-10, on Thursday to reach the semifinals of the 2015 Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Philsports Arena.

    Soyoung Lee scored 29 points, 26 on spikes, Hyejin Ha added 19 and Hyeri An chipped in 16 for Korea, which faces China. The Chinese defeated the Philippines in four sets.

    It was a huge win for Korea, which gave 29 points to Chinese Taipei through errors, although the Taiwanese also committed 26 miscues.

    “We had a lot of mistakes,” said Korea coach Sungjin Hong through an interpreter. “Chinese Taipei just had little mistakes, that’s why we adjusted to our mistakes in the fifth set.”

    Korea used a 6-3 spurt to widen the gap, 11-5, in the fifth en route to victory in two hours and two minutes.

    “Korea is a very good and very strong team. They had teamwork,” said Chinese Taipei coach Ming-Hui Lin through an interpreter. “Korea is very difficult to match.”

    Tzu-Ya Chen scored 16 points, while Tzu-Ying Lee and Wan-Ling Tseng contributed 12 markers apiece for for Chinese Taipei.
