CHINA recovered from two sets down to beat Korea, 24-26, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8, on Monday in the 2015 Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Philsports Arena.
Liu Yanhan had a match-high 37 points including timely hits and the block that ended the match.
“We didn’t have a good start today,” Liu said. “I think the Korean team had a good service. I think we will be better tomorrow.”
China will face Thailand on Tuesday in another marquee matchup in the battle for seedings in Pool F for the crossover quarterfinals.
“Today was a hard game for both teams. The Korean team played good,” added China coach Xu Jiande through an interpreter.
Korea won the first two sets, but simply lost steam.
“We were a little bit tired in the fourth and fifth set,” said Korea coach Hong Sungjin.
Lee Soyoung scored 26 points for Korea, which only prepared two weeks for the competition. Go Yerim and Ha Hyejin added 19 markers but Go committed errors in the final set that led to a big 10-4 China lead.
