CHINESE Taipei primed up for its second round match-up with the Philippines by pulling off a straight-sets win over Iran, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17, on Monday in the 2015 Rebisco Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Philsports Arena.
Chang Li-Wen had 14 points, Tzu-Ying Lee had 13, and Tzu-Ya Chen added 12 for the Taiwanese spikers, who will face the Alyssa Valdez-led Philippine team on Tuesday night in second round action.
The win put Chinese Taipei ahead in Pool E with a 1-1 record in the second round, where results of their matches from eliminated teams during the preliminaries were taken away from their win-loss records to determine seedings for the crossover quarterfinals.
“I think the Philippines is tough and hard to play,” said Chinese Taipei head coach Lin Ming-Hui ahead of their 7 p.m. encounter.
”But I'm happy with the team. We are now getting better,” said Lin.
Chinese Taipei and the Philippines look to avoid ending up in the last two places in Pool E as it will mean facing the top two teams in Pool F, where Asian powerhouse teams China, Korea, and Thailand are expected to battle for positioning.
Iran dropped to 1-1
