TMS Philippine Army hardly flexed its muscles as it turned its match against Cignal into a mere workout, hacking out a three-set victory in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix Friday night at the Ynares Sports Arena.
The Lady Troopers took just 64 minutes to dispose of the HD Spikers, 25-5, 25-18, 25-20.
Playing as starter for the first time in the tournament, Rachel Anne Daquis was quick to take advantage of the opportunity by firing 19 points for the Lady Troopers, who also got 17 from Thai reinforcement Luangtonglang Watnitchaya.
"Pinasok ko na si Rachel kasi kailangan namin ng opensa, tapos si Michelle (Carolino) mababa 'yung laro," said Army coach Rico de Guzman of his decision to start Daquis.
Army currently occupies second spot with a 4-1 record. But de Guzman said the Lady Troopers remains shaky at no.2 as Cagayan (3-1), and PLDT MyDSL (4-0) will take on each other Sunday.
“Huwag lang mananalo ang Cagayan sa PLDT kasi pwede kami mag-tie tatlo, pwede pa kami bumaba sa number three," he said.
Chinese reinforcements Lei Xie and Li Zhangzhan finished with eight markers each for Cignal as the HD Spikers absorbed their second straight loss for a 2-3 card.
