ARELLANO University advanced to the semifinals of the 88th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament with a 23-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 win over Letran at The Arena in San Juan Monday.
Menchie Tubiera led the Lady Chiefs with 21 points on 15 spikes, one block, and five service aces, while Danna Henson came through with 12 markers from 11 hits and one block as Arellano (6-3) completed the Final Four cast.
“Bonus na sa amin na makapasok sa semis. Mangangarap kami ulit sa semis, kung pumasok kami ng pahirapan, mas lalo naming pupursigihin. Kung sakaling umabot kami sa Finals, masuwerte na kami,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier.
“Lagi ko sinasabi sa kanila na isipin ninyo na huling laro na ito, parang championship game,” he added.
Arellano will join Emilio Aguinaldo, San Sebastian, and defending champion University of Perpetual Help in the Final Four.
Melissa Cu finished with 13 points on top of 10 attacks, two blocks and one service ace, while Sarah Jane Espelita added 11, all from spikes, and Mikaela Lopez contributed 10 for Letran, which ended their campaign with a 3-8 record.
Meanwhile, Emilio Aguinaldo College marched to the Final Four with a 25-15, 9-25, 25-23, 25-22 victory over College of St. Benilde.
Charmille Belleza came with 16 points, from 14 spikes and two service errors, while Ivy Angeline Carlos added 12, on top of three attacks, one block and eight service aces for the Lady Generals
Emilio Aguinaldo finished the preliminaries with an 8-1 (win-loss) record.
Jannine Navarro produced 14 points, on top of 12 attacks and two blocks, while Rossan Fajardo added 12, from 10 spikes and two service aces, and Maureen Veronas chipped in 10, from seven spikes and five service aces, for the Lady Blazers.
The Taft-based tossers absorbed their fourth loss in nine outings and failed to make the semis.
